During the whole month of August, we put the skin condition psoriasis at the centre of our attention. Today, people who live with this immune-mediated disease still face stigma. Although current treatments have already made a big difference, there is still a great need for medicines that work better, quicker and for a longer period of time. We are committed to going that extra mile, and really making a difference in patients' lives! At Janssen, we go Beyond Psoriasis, Beyond Expectations!
What is Psoriasis?
A red or scaly skin, itching, pain: psoriasis patients are confronted with it every day. Psoriasis is an immune-mediated disease that can manifest itself from head to toe all over the body. Because the immune system is too active, skin cells divide faster. While skin cells of normal skin renew themselves every 28 days, the skin of people living with psoriasis has a cycle of 4 to 6 days. The skin cells, therefore, pile up on what makes the skin scaly and red.1 Approximately 300,000 people in Belgium are affected by this disease.2
