What is EHDEN?
EHDEN is the European Health Data & Evidence Network.
It’s a federated data network designed to address the challenges in generating real-world evidence (RWE) from real-world data (RWD). It’s an IMI2 project, the second phase of the Innovative Medicines Initiative, with a consortium of 22 partners, 11 of which are public and led by the Erasmus Medical Centre, and 11 of which are pharmaceutical companies, lead by Janssen.
What is its goal?
The aim is to make research methodologies and RWD more standardised at scale, by harmonising 100 million health records by 2024.
The network is disease-agnostic, and so welcomes data from across different disease areas. These data are then analysed by a mix of participating bodies, including universities, small businesses, patient groups and pharmaceutical companies.
The federated network will support observational research, helping the community to make better decisions in healthcare and, ultimately, to create better patient outcomes.
Mission and vision
EHDEN’s mission is to harness the power of RWD and become the trusted observational research ecosystem in Europe.
The transformational potential of RWD is not being used to anywhere near its potential. Health data is made up of lots of different languages, systems and structures, with challenging policy restrictions and technology issues.
EHDEN’s goal is to reduce the time it takes to provide answers to questions in the field of health research.Learn More
