The Microbiome in Action

A balanced and diverse microbial community is associated with a healthy microbiome. The interaction of foods, medicines, and other environmental factors can disrupt the microbiome, leading to an imbalance that may be associated with observable symptoms of disease or other indicators of disease progression. Interventions that restore balance to the microbiome—such as lifestyle changes or cocktails of microbes—may return patients to health or prevent disease before it starts.
