Our Community Commitment

At Janssen, we put the needs and wellbeing of the people we serve first.

Our commitment begins with patients and healthcare professionals but extends to supporting the communities in which we live and work, in Ireland and globally.

Collaboration is the cornerstone of our community work in Ireland. We work closely with partners on multiple initiatives including ones to educate and inspire young people about the potential and possibility of a career in science.

I WISH

We are partners in the I WISH community, which showcases the power of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) to teenage girls. Through year-round outreach activities, I WISH showcases the power of STEM. Through this collaboration, we are involved in a transition year programme on STEM, which reaches more than 14,000 girls annually all over Ireland and some internationally. We also regularly open the doors of our manufacturing sites for students to visit.

Junior Achievement Ireland (JAI)

JAI is a member of one of the world’s largest educational non-profits, helping prepare young people for their futures by delivering hands-on, experiential learning in entrepreneurship, employability, financial literacy, and the value of STEM.

In partnership with JAI, our teams in Cork have rolled out the WiSTEM2D initiative (STEM plus manufacturing and design) to help pupils to grow and develop in these areas. Our employees visit local schools to run workshops with fifth and sixth class students to enable them to explore the world of engineering and pharmacology.

J&J Campus Ireland have partnered with Junior Achievement Ireland for over 20 years to support children in the local community. The programme aims to inspire and motivate young people to realise their potential through education and participation in STEM activities. Our employee volunteers have engaged hundreds of students across multiple schools in the delivery of JAI initiatives.

Bridge to Employment

Bridge to Employment is a worldwide J&J initiative which was introduced to support education by communicating to young people that learning can be meaningful, engaging, and relevant. With support from JAI, Business in the Community Ireland and our education partners at University College Cork, Munster Technological University and Cork Education and Training Board, the Bridge to Employment programme has been running in Cork since 2005.

In addition to corporate sponsorship associated with the programme, Janssen employees volunteer to mentor students, host site visits, and help them in developing career paths in science.

The ultimate aim of the programme is to support these students to continue to third level education.

A number of Bridge to Employment alumni students have gone on to work at our manufacturing sites.

Special Olympics Munster

As part of the J&J family of companies, we are proud of our enduring partnership with Special Olympics Munster through the Special Achievers Club. The club aims to support Munster’s Special Olympics athletes through its well-trained and experienced volunteer team who can deliver high quality sports events throughout the Munster region, while providing volunteers the opportunity to support their communities.

Grow It Yourself

Janssen prides itself in leading the way in sustainability at our manufacturing sites in Ireland. From a community perspective, we partner with schools in Cork as part of the Grow It Yourself initiative with the aim of having a school garden or growing kit in every school so children can learn the skills to grow their own food and understand where food comes from.

Janssen volunteers also participate in beach and community area clean ups, planting and painting projects, as part of the Tidy Towns initiative.

Jobstown Assisting Drug Dependency (JADD)

JADD strive to empower service users who wish to return to a drug-free lifestyle by providing a range of services free of charge, designed to support families with addiction problems.  J&J has a long-standing relationship with JADD since its initiation within the Tallaght community in Dublin some years ago, which includes employee volunteering.  This ties into the heart of the credo in the values around community in which we live and work in.
