Oncology Careers: What Kind of Mark Will You Make?

Janssen’s Oncology organization fosters the passion within our people by developing their careers, creating a collaborative environment and unifying behind a common goal – to make a difference in the lives of patients with cancer.

“Developing transformational drugs is incredibly difficult,” says Peter F. Lebowitz, M.D., Ph.D., Global Therapeutic Area Head, Oncology, for Janssen Research & Development, LLC. “It is only done successfully when teams of highly talented people come together to drive toward a goal. There is no formula – there is no instruction manual. There are only talented and passionate people moving through uncharted territory. Our people are everything, and we need to give them the room to do great things.”

While our Oncology group is singularly focused on discovering and developing new medicines, we also know that an incredibly diverse organization with an open and collaborative work environment is essential to accomplishing that task. We firmly believe that there is strength in diversity. We strive to create an environment where people are able to innovate together. Focusing on what’s common to all of us – scientific excellence and integrity, connected partnership, and pipeline delivery – allows those diverse points of view to be heard.

The Oncology team puts great effort into defining career paths and identifying future opportunities, but having a common goal is what really motivates our people. “The goal of curing and preventing cancer is at the forefront of our minds every day,” said Dr. Lebowitz. “We have a saying at Janssen, ‘the patients are waiting.’ Remembering that, ultimately, our science makes a real difference for patients is what ignites the passion that fuels our innovation.”

The Oncology Therapeutic Area is always in search of the most talented scientists and physicians to develop first-in-class oncology compounds. We are looking for high-performing individuals who demonstrate outstanding scientific knowledge in the areas of Oncology Research, Drug Development, and Medical Affairs.
