Pride week 2020: Pride is never cancelled
Every year during the month of June, the LGBTQ+, community celebrate Pride events across the globe.
While these events cannot go ahead in their usual form this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, at Janssen in the UK we echo the sentiment that Pride is never cancelled!
This year, the 28th of June marks the 51st anniversary of the Stonewall riots in New York City – a series of protests that led to the gay liberation movement in the US and served as a catalyst for the rights of LGBTQ+ people across the world. In recognition of this anniversary and to kick off UK Pride week from 29th June, our Johnson & Johnson internal Employee Resource Group, the ‘Open & Out’ UK team are launching their first virtual Pride series for employees across the company. This series will be made up of various virtual speaker events, ally workshops, quizzes and more, to provide colleagues with the opportunity to hear and discuss diverse perspectives on LGBTQ+ topics, with a view to becoming stronger allies to this community.
At Janssen, we will continue to celebrate the progress that the LGBTQ+ community has made throughout history, challenge inequalities and recognise the discrimination that remains to this day. We will continue to play our part to take active steps to combat these injustices and hope that our first virtual Pride series will be that next step in continuing to drive vital change.
Together we care with pride
