Artificial Intelligence Machine Based Analytics Computer Vision

By leveraging both artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) analysis techniques, image analysis has become a cornerstone of healthcare Data Science and Digital Health by helping to solve real-world challenges.

Artificial Intelligence, Machine-Based Image Analysis, and Computer Vision

Since 1896, when Nobel-prize winner Wilhelm Röntgen introduced the first “radiographs” to the world, sparking a sensation with the X-ray, medical imagery has played an integral role in how we care for patients. And as imaging technologies have evolved, they have been increasingly harnessed in the fight against disease – from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to detect Alzheimer’s disease to breast cancer screening with mammography.

Today, medical imaging is at a new inflection point as it converges with transformative technologies. At Janssen, we are bringing together Data Scientists, large biomedical imaging datasets and disease researchers to revolutionize how we channel the power of imaging -- not only to see, but to identify features that were not obvious to us before to solve challenges across both discovery and development.

By applying the power of AI and deep learning to medical images like digitized pathology slides, radiographic images, or endoscopy videos,– e.g., cell painting to predict off-label effects to develop higher quality new molecular entities (NMEs), AI-based algorithms based on histopath and radiomics we can better diagnose and monitor disease progression or predict optimal treatments for the individual patient. Such novel applications help enable breakthroughs that would have been unimaginable just a few years ago and accelerate life-saving treatments, for instance ‘patient finding’ through inferring genetics via image analysis.
