Our Social Enterprise Commitment

At Janssen, we have a deep responsibility to the people we serve, and this extends to our supply chain.  As part of Johnson & Johnson, we are an active supporter of Johnson & Johnson’s Social Impact through Procurement (SIP) programme.

The aim is to connect our business needs to social enterprise suppliers in the communities we operate in. Our business benefits from new ideas and innovation, and society benefits from companies such as ours building more diverse and inclusive supply chains.

Social enterprises are businesses which trade for a social purpose, such as organisations developed to create employment for people facing barriers to the job market.  This could include those with mental and physical disabilities, autism, and individuals in isolated or vulnerable populations.

Johnson & Johnson is proud to be a Founding Partner of the Buy Social Corporate Challenge, an initiative developed by Social Enterprise UK (SEUK).  At Janssen UK, as part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, we are aspiring to redirect 5% of our essential business spend to social enterprises in order to support 150 jobs for those furthest from the job market. 

Since the launch of the SIP programme in 2014:

  • Over 40 UK social enterprises have benefited from entering Johnson & Johnson supply chains

  • More than £5 million has been spent with social enterprises across Johnson & Johnson, directly and through our primary suppliers

  • Approximately 87 jobs created or supported for people who face barriers to the job market

  • 350 mentoring/skills exchange hours with social entrepreneurs in Johnson & Johnson in 2018
