Terracotta Army Restoration

Terracotta Army Restoration

Since 2000, we have collaborated with the Emperor Qin’s Museum of Terracotta Warriors and Horses in Xian, China, to help preserve one of the most significant archeological excavations of the 20th Century.

In 1976, Dr. Paul Janssen visited the Terracotta Army and was fascinated by its magnificence but learned that, due to exposure to high temperatures and humidity, the site was facing a significant mold problem. To help protect this historical and cultural treasure, we have collaborated with the museum to provide research facilities, employee training, anti-fungal treatment and a world-class microbiological laboratory for advanced material protection research.

This project created a precedent of using modern medical technology to restore ancient artifacts.
