My IBD Journey

My IBD Journey

IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) is a collective name for chronic intestinal diseases , of which Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are the most common. The main differences between these two diseases lie in the location and extent of the inflammation. In Crohn’s disease, the whole digestive system may be affected, whereas in ulcerative colitis the inflammation is localized in the inner lining of the intestine. People with IBD suffer from abdominal pain, changing bowel movements, loss of appetite, fever and extreme fatigue. The disease has an enormous impact on young people, as it is mostly diagnosed between the ages of fifteen and thirty.

What is the impact of IBD on daily life? IBD causes different kinds of symptoms. The impact on daily life is different for everyone; each person has his own #IBDJourney. People often experience vague complaints for a long time before they are diagnosed with IBD. Their condition also puts many obstacles in their way to participating in normal social life. In order to offer people tools and suggestions to deal with IBD and to improve their quality of life, we worked together with the European Federation of Crohn’s & Ulcerative Colitis Associations to develop an appealing video.

Janssen is aware that living with IBD presents many challenges. That is why we devote much attention to research into IBD with a strong focus on the interaction between the colon and its environment . In that way, we want to investigate ways to prevent, treat and eventually cure IBD.
